Waterproofing a fieldstone foundation in a historic home requires a careful step-by-step process to control groundwater and protect the structure.

At All Pro Basement Waterproofing, we start by repointing the foundation walls. This process involves removing loose dirt and deteriorated mortar between the stones and applying new mortar to strengthen the wall and seal gapswhere water can enter.

Next, we install an interior drainage system at the base of the foundation. This system collects groundwater before it can reach the basement floor.

You may notice a gray plastic channel installed along the bottom of the wall. This product is called PolyCove. PolyCove allows water that comes through the stone foundation to enter the drainage system below the floor while maintaining an air gap along the wall. The drainage system then directs the water safely into the sump pump system, which pumps the water away from the home.

Once the drainage system is installed, we apply a waterproof coating to the walls and floor. This waterproof paint provides an extra layer of protection against moisture, acts as a barrier that penetrates the surface, and helps reduce humidity inside the basement. It also gives the basement a clean, bright appearance.

As shown in the photo gallery below, we also replaced the lally columns in this project and painted them with a rust-resistant coating to prevent corrosion and improve the overall appearance of the space.

The result is a clean, dry, and protected basement, while preserving the structure of the historic fieldstone foundation.
